Japanese Nursing Rooms Were Better Than We Expected

Before having a baby, we did not realize how baby-friendly many public spaces in Japan could be.

One thing that surprised us the most was Japanese nursing rooms. In many department stores, shopping malls, stations, and even some public facilities, there are clean and comfortable spaces for feeding babies and changing diapers.

Many nursing rooms in Japan have diaper changing stations, private feeding spaces, microwaves, and sinks for washing baby bottles.✨

However, not every nursing room in Japan has hot water available for preparing formula. Because of that, bringing your own hot water or ready-to-feed liquid formula can feel very reassuring while going out with a baby.👶

We were also surprised to find baby chairs inside public restrooms. They made it much easier when one parent needed to use the bathroom while holding the baby alone.

One difficult thing we noticed is that most restroom stalls in Japan are too small to fit a stroller. If your baby cannot sit safely in a baby chair yet, using an accessible or multipurpose restroom that allows space for a stroller can feel much easier and safer.🙆‍♀️

Small details like these made daily life and traveling with a baby in Japan feel much less stressful than we expected.

Of course, not every place is perfect, but overall we have felt very supported as parents while going out with our baby in Japan 🇯🇵
